Staff Spotlight - Katie Baillargeon

We are happy to introduce our new series of UCSB Writing staff spotlights, beginning with Katie Baillargeon! 

Congratulations to Katie Baillargeon, Senior Continuing Lecturer in the UCSB Writing Program.

Her article, “Reflective Orientations and Genre Navigation in Dissertation Writing: Insights from Seven Years of Doctoral Writing Retreats,” was published in the Journal of Writing Research on November 25, 2025.

Drawing on more than 1,000 reflections from 278 participants in UCSB’s Dissertation Write-in, Katie’s research examines how doctoral writers navigate dissertation challenges and which strategies lead to the greatest success.

Since joining UCSB in 2008, she has been an invaluable part of our writing community, and this publication is a testament to her dedication to supporting student writers.
